Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

PTO Calculator is designed to be privacy-first. Every calculation runs entirely inside your web browser — we never see your PTO balance, vacation dates, or any other information you enter.

🔒
The short story
  • Everything you enter into the calculator stays locally on your device. We never receive your PTO balance or vacation dates.
  • The calculator is free, with no sign-ups or accounts. It is supported by ads served by Google AdSense.
  • We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. Google Analytics and AdSense use cookies; see Cookies, Analytics & Advertising for how to opt out.
  • You can delete your saved settings anytime by clearing your browser's site data.

1. Who We Are

PTO Calculator operates the website ptocalculators.com (the "Service"). We are an independent, free web tool — not a corporation, HR software company, or data broker. The site is maintained by an individual developer. References to "we," "us," or "our" in this document refer to the operator of ptocalculators.com.

If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at [email protected].

2. Data We Collect

The table below summarizes every category of data that touches our Service and whether we collect or transmit it.

Data Type Collected by Us? Notes
PTO balance, accrual rate, vacation dates Never Processed locally in your browser only.
Browser local storage (settings) Never Saved to your device only; we cannot read it.
IP address / server logs Maybe Our hosting provider may log standard HTTP request metadata (IP, user-agent, referrer). We do not access or retain these logs.
Email address Never Only if you voluntarily contact us by email.
Account / login data Never There are no accounts on this site.
Analytics / page-view data Yes Collected by Google Analytics: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring site. We see aggregated reports only. It never includes your PTO inputs.
Advertising cookies / identifiers Yes (Google) Set by Google AdSense to serve and measure ads. See section 4.

3. Local Storage

When you use PTO Calculator, your settings are saved to your browser's localStorage under the key pto-config. This includes inputs like your current balance, accrual rate, pay period, floating-days-first preference, carryover cap, and theme preference.

This data:

PTO balances and vacation entries you log during a session are not persisted to local storage — they are cleared when you close or refresh the page.

4. Cookies, Analytics & Advertising

The calculator itself saves your settings with localStorage, not cookies. However, two Google services on this site do use cookies and similar technologies:

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they read, and how they arrived. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects data such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device and browser type. We use these reports only in aggregate to improve the site. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Google AdSense

Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Where required by law (for example in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland), you will be asked for consent before these cookies are used.

This Privacy Policy applies only to ptocalculators.com. If you follow a link to an external website — including links in this policy — that site's own privacy policy governs how your data is handled. We have no control over and accept no responsibility for the privacy practices of any third-party sites.

6. Log Data & Hosting

PTO Calculator is hosted as a static site. Our hosting infrastructure may automatically record standard server access logs when your browser requests files from our servers. These logs typically include:

We do not actively access, store, or analyze these server logs. They are retained by the hosting provider per their own data retention policies. We do not use this data to identify individual users.

7. Children's Privacy

PTO Calculator is intended for adults who receive employment-based paid time off. The Service is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect information from, children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). If you believe a child has used this site in a way that raises a privacy concern, please contact us at [email protected].

8. Your Rights (CCPA / GDPR)

We do not hold your calculator data, so there is nothing about your PTO for us to access or delete. Analytics and advertising data are collected and processed by Google under its own privacy policy; you can control them with the opt-out tools in section 4.

However, to the extent any data is held (e.g., if you contact us by email), you have the following rights depending on your jurisdiction:

California residents (CCPA)

EEA / UK residents (GDPR / UK GDPR)

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Data Security

The PTO Calculator website is served over HTTPS, which encrypts data in transit between your browser and our servers. Because your calculator data is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to us, the attack surface for a server-side data breach is essentially zero.

Your browser's local storage is protected by the same-origin policy, meaning only code running on ptocalculators.com can read or write the pto-config key.

That said, no method of data storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of data stored on your device if it is compromised by malware, unauthorized physical access, or other factors outside our control.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we may add a more prominent notice.

Continued use of the Service after any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Past versions are not archived publicly, but you may request them by email.
